The Silent Sentinel

There is something hauntingly lovely even in a tree that no longer carries life-giving sap. The curve and bent of silvered wood stands as a testimonial of the magnificent tree it once was. It overlooked the distant green valley below and provided shelter for many generations of birds and squirrels. For a time it seemed almost Eternal. It provided cool shade from the blast of the blazing summer sun for the flowers that bloomed at its roots. Gaze at the tree for a moment or two and then close your eyes and listen carefully. You can practically hear the drone of the Katydids humming in the heat of the day.
